We’re experimenting with new ensembles that could possibly become the standard sound for classical, the way the string 4tet and the large orchestra became the new sound in the classical and romantic periods respectively. Our intuition: we need a small group with a big sound, a massive low end, and a few soloists freaking out downstage center. Meet the Manhattan Bassblaster. We tested it on Leap Day.
